Listed below are some of our most commonly asked questions.
If you have a question that’s not listed below, please feel free to contact us with the form at the bottom of this page.
Where do you guide and when?
We guide in Glacier National Park from mid-December through March, and year-round in Kootenai National Forest and Flathead National Forest.
What is the best time of year for a tour?
WINTER: Our snowiest winter months are typically January and February. March is better for longer, sunnier days.
SUMMER: For optimal summer weather, plan your trip for July or August.
**Due to weather and permitting, our trip options are very limited in the months of April and November.
Are your group tours private?
Because our tours are so customized, we generally lead only private tours. We don’t mix groups or add individuals to other groups for a discount. We want you and your group to have the best experience possible, without the distraction of other guests and their respective agendas.
How long are the tours?
Full day tours last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Half day tours last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or noon to 4 p.m.
Tour lengths can be shorter depending on your itinerary, just let us know. Full day rates will apply for any item without a half-day option, regardless of time spent in the field.
Due to the lengthy drive times of most of our tours, we do not offer many half-day outings.
Are your tours good for kids?
Our best tours for kids are hiking, rock climbing and snowshoeing. They are relatively mellow and easily adjusted to accommodate the whole family. For very small children, we offer a kid sled to pull on snowshoe trips if they get tired out.
Can you pick us up from our hotel?
Yes, however there is a fee for certain pick up areas. We charge $75 from Whitefish and $125 from Whitefish Mountain Resort. *If your lodging is on the way to the trailhead, there is no pickup charge.
How many people can go on a tour?
We have capacity for 18 people on a single tour. Very large group rates can be negotiated in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is as follows:
Trips cancelled 30 days in advance receive a full refund.
Trips cancelled within 30 days of trip will not be refunded.
Guide-cancelled trips due to weather, conditions, etc. will receive a full refund.
What if the weather is bad?
We guide no matter the weather, however we can’t offer a refund if the weather or conditions aren’t to your liking. Such is the nature of our outings in the mountains! However, if the weather is too dangerous- due to cold, wind, snow or a combination, we will cancel your trip for a full refund.
How difficult are the tours?
Tours are customized to your group’s fitness and ability. It can be fast or slow, long or short. We can only move as fast as the slowest member of the group. Please let us know your preferred trip intensity if you have concerns! It helps us a lot with the day’s itinerary. Please note that for this reason we do not mix groups.
Our guides are very fit and can take you as far and fast as you want to go.
Where is your office?
We are located at 729 Nucleus Ave, which is the main street of Columbia Falls. After turning north onto Nucleus, take a right on 8th Street. Take the next left into the parking lot behind the Cosley Building, home to Three Forks Grille, and park behind the building.
Our office, Suite G, is up the stairs on the north end of the building.
What is the difference between you and Glacier Guides?
Glacier Guides is the sole summer hiking concession in Glacier Park. They are affiliated with Montana Raft and do not guide in the winter.
Glacier Adventure Guides is an established winter guide service for Glacier National Park. We also offer driving, hiking, backpacking and rock climbing tours in summer (outside of Glacier).
Just remember- Adventure is our middle name!
Do you rent boots and/or backpacks?
Yes, we rent cross country ski boots, skis, poles, mountain boots and day packs to our guests at no additional charge.
What qualifications do your guides have?
Our guides are certified in Outdoor Emergency Care, Avalanche Safety, Mountain Travel and Rescue, in addition to having decades of experience in the local backcountry. They are skiers, climbers and general adventurers with a passion for showing people the beauty of the area through sport. Check out our guides page for more information about our crew.
What other outdoor activities are there in your area?
Popular winter options include downhill skiing, skate skiing, dog sledding and snowmobiling.
Summer options abound, with whitewater rafting/kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding and zip lining, just to name a few.
